The Unofficial Start of Summer Marks the Official Opening of Casino Pier Since Sandy…Memorial Day Weekend 2013

We never doubted we would not be back for Memorial Day Weekend and we were right!  Despite the cold, windy and rainy weather, we had our opening day for the 2013 season on Friday!

Friday was indeed a busy day on the Seaside Heights boardwalk, starting with the Guinness Book of World Records’ 5.5-mile long ribbon cutting by Governor Chris Christie, declaring the shore is officially open for the summer.  Then followed a beach-packed free concert by the rock band Fun., whose anthem, “We are Young”, which captures the spirit  of the Seaside Heights boardwalk that was devastated by the Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.

Casino Pier officially opened with our own ribbon cutting (of caution tape) by Director of Operations, Lou Cirigliano at 4PM on Friday.  The weather wasn’t the best, but our loyal guests came out to win prizes at the arcade and Midway Games of Chance and challenged opponents on the Go Karts and Wacky Rooftop Golf.  Pier Surf had many shoppers looking for sweatshirts (the bright side of the weather)!

Unfortunately the weather got the best of us on Saturday and Breakwater Beach did not open.  But as you know, that doesn’t stop us!  Opening Day moved to Sunday, proving we are stronger than the storm! We had guests enjoying the water at the waterpark, winning prizes in the arcade and game stands… and of course enjoying delicious pizza and sausage sandwiches at Pier Grille!

Memorial Day Monday was gorgeous with the sun shining all day and the boardwalk was packed with people, a great way to remember those who fought for our country and who became heroes.  We all wouldn’t be here today without those who sacrificed their lives and Casino Pier thanks you all.

It was a long and difficult road since October 29th, but we are up and running – thanks to our determined staff and employees who worked day and night since November to get us where we are today.  We could not have done it without the support from our guests and the shore community.  Your thoughts and encouragement motivated our team to work as hard as we could to be open for Memorial Day Weekend.

We are consistently working hard to finish the rebuilding phase.  Stay tuned in a few weeks for the announcement of our rides opening up on our lower deck for you all to enjoy.  We know many are anxious to ride the new Super Storm ride… I know we are!  We look forward to seeing you all at Casino Pier & Breakwater Beach for a memorable summer of 2013!
